London 2007
Big Ben on a mostly sunny crisp winter day. We were on our way to Westminster Abby from the British Museum when this picture was taken.
A government building just to the right of Westminster. I have NO IDEA what happens there, but the building looked very cool.
The changing of the Horse Guard at Buckingham Palace. The Queen Victoria Monument watches over the whole proceeding.
Matt and Laurel standing near Tower Hill with Tower Bridge in the background - this was just before we took the train east to call on an old friend of ours that that turned out not to be at home. We waited for a little while in the dark paneled foyer, but decided to return another day and do a little catching up.

Westminster Abby. This place was AMAZING. We took the normal audio tour and then wondered around looking at this and that for hours. Probably the most beautiful church that I have ever been in. A MUST-SEE on any London stop-over.
A marble version of this statue is in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. When I saw it there I fell in love with it and completely forgot to write down the name and sculptor information. I was more than surprised to find a copy in the Victoria and Albert Museum. It is titled, Peasent Woman Nursing a Baby and is by Jules Dalou (1838-1902). Apparently it was one of many studies done before the marble piece in Amsterdam was completed. Beautiful! Click on the image to see a larger one and a picture of the Marble statue is here.
Laurel at a Harry Potter landmark in King’s Cross Station. After seeing the first movie again recently I realized that the spot used in the film was on the actual platform and this was put here, well out of the way of the trains, to keep the tourists from crowding actual passengers.
Laurel on Tower Hill with the Tower of London behind her and one of the many double-decker buses made it into the shot. We had a really great day out in London.
This is on or near the spot where Lady Anne Boleyn was beheaded inside the Tower. In the center is a crystal pillow – regardless of the charges against her she was the former Queen of England and in addition to the use of a sword instead of an axe for the deed, she was afforded a plush silk pillow so that her neck wouldn’t touch the block… The monument was a new addition from when I was there in 2002 – very pretty.
Laurel on the Tower Grounds – sort of near the raven rookery.
A plaque commemorating the spot in White Tower where it is believed the remains of Edward V and his brother were found – spooky.
A display in White Tower of one set of Henry VIII’s personal and horse armor.
Laurel with two Canadian soldiers that fought at one point for England and were present at the changing of the Horse Guard.
A Princess Diana Memorial Walk plaque. They were spaced every fifty feet of so beside a small park near Buckingham palace. There were wreaths of flowers on some of the ones that were out of the high traffic areas.

A shot of the punts on the River Cam in Cambridge. These little flat-bottomed boats are propelled with poles and at one point or another everyone that goes to one of the colleges in Cambridge rents a punt and takes it for a short float. Some of them end up standing in the shallow water after loosing their balance from a combination of a rocking boat and too much beer.

This is my favorite fountain in all of London. It is exquisite and sits in a shady little retail square (Horsleydown Square, Tower Bridge Piazza, London SE1). It is a quiet place to sit, snack and read. It is named “Waterfall” and was designed by Anthony Donaldson in 1998. It is across The Thames from The Tower of London, just at the feet of Tower Bridge and almost directly across from London City Hall.

I happened to be in town during the English Premier of Star Wars: Episode II. I was walking to grab a bite to eat while they were setting everything up in Leicester Square and on my way back that night I caught a glimpse of Samuel L. Jackson, George Lucas and Natalie Portman waving to fans outside the theatre. This is a pic of the setup.
